Halloween is all about frightful fun. But the holiday also generates an alarming number of child injuries. A study from the American Academy of Pediatrics showed the most common injuries for children on Halloween night are lacerations (29%), contusions/abrasions (18%), fractures (15%) and sprains/strains (13%).
Here are some ways your urgent care can encourage safety and help your community this spooky season.

    • 1. Open the urgent care center on Halloween to X-ray candy. This helps give parents an immediate option for checking the safety of their children’s bounty. Provide the X-rays as a free service; keep your clinic open after hours on Halloween night; and get the word out through local media, on social media and on your website.
    • 2. Push Halloween safety tips out to your community through various media outlets. In recent years, FastMed Urgent Care has released the “Ten Tips for Happy not Hair-Raising Halloween” to educate parents about costume safety concerns, appropriate footwear and safety while out in the dark. Check out this infographic from the Safe Kids Worldwide organization for more tips and facts about Halloween safety.
  • 3. Consider keeping your urgent care clinic open Halloween evening to treat minor injuries that could occur. Trick-or-treaters may suffer sprains or falls. Your clinic should be prepared to see an increase in visits from such injuries.
  • These services not only make the clinic a great community partner, they can be a great marketing tool for your urgent care.
