The Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA) is the one significant organization in the specialty of urgent care. With a focus on serving its membership, the leadership of the Urgent Care Association of America is working toward gaining recognition of urgent care as a unique specialty.
Since the inception of UCAOA, Practice Velocity has been a Platinum Sponsor/Partner of UCAOA.
The achievements of UCAOA have been quite substantial, including:
- Journal of Urgent Care Medicine: Finally, urgent care medicine has its own journal, with articles on clinical and business aspects of urgent care. The editorial board is populated with outstanding academicians in many medical specialties relevant to urgent care medicine. The first issue of JUCM was published in October, 2006.
- Urgent Care Fellowship: Establishing specialty post-graduate training in urgent care had long been seen as a fantasy hope for urgent care. UCAOA, however, had establishing this fellowship as one of their original goals and actively worked to establish this fellowship training. In 2006, under the leadership of Lee Resnick, MD at the Case University in Cleveland, the first three fellows in urgent care began a one year fellowship in the specialty of urgent care medicine. In 2007, UCAOA established a second urgent care fellowship as a cooperative venture between the University of Illinois and Physicians Immediate Care in Illinois.
- National Conferences: The annual conference of the Urgent Care Association of America is the only ongoing annual urgent care convention. Over 750 urgent care professionals attend the annual convention. UCAOA, also, offers a fall conference. The fall conference runs for two days and involves specialized tracks, so that attendees can focus on learning in specific areas. In the past tracks have included: Urgent Care Startup, Clinical Urgent Care Medicine, Basic Urgent Care Coding, Advanced Urgent Care Coding, and others.
