Medical Organizations Related to Urgent Care

- Urgent Care Convention: Since its very first annual national conference, UCAOA each national conference has been the largest gathering of urgent care professionals in the USA , with each conference seeing about 50% more attendance. At Tahoe-2006, attendees and vendor representatives numbered over 450. The sessions included full-day pre-conferences on 1) How to Start an Urgent Care Center , 2) Urgent Care Procedures, 3) Occupational Medicine and 4) Advanced Billing Concepts. Ratings of the conference were very high with most attendees expressing an intention to return for the next annual Urgent Care Convention in Daytona , Florida on May 9-12, 2007.
- Journal of Urgent Care Medicine: Finally urgent care medicine has its own journal, with articles on clinical and business aspects of urgent care. The editorial board is populated with outstanding academicians in many medical specialties relevant to urgent care medicine. The first issue of JUCM will be published in October, 2006.
- Urgent Care Fellowship: Establishing specialty post-graduate training in urgent care had long been seen as a fantasy hope for urgent care. UCAOA, however, had establishing this fellowship as one of their original goals and actively worked to establish this fellowship training. In 2006, under the leadership of Lee Resnick, MD at the Case University in Cleveland, the first three fellows in urgent care began a one year fellowship in the specialty of urgent care medicine. All fellows had already completed residencies in family practice. After completing their fellowships, these physicians will be highly recruited for positions in the top urgent care programs in the USA.
- Urgent Care Forums: The UCAOA website forums have become the most popular site for urgent care professionals to ask questions and get answers about issues relating to urgent care. In keeping with the principles of open participation of UCAOA, the forum is open to anyone with serious questions about the field of urgent care.
