Questions for Dr. Stern
About Your Urgent Care Center
20. You reinforced our initial impression that in Florida, the standard reimbursement plans are on the flat-fee model. We will be approaching the major insurers in the next few weeks, but we would love to test the waters with an attempt to obtain some of the "carve-outs" that you alluded to in your presentation. Can you send me a copy of either your Super bill or list of carve-outs so that we might have a better chance presenting that as an "industry standard" to the insurers. We are aware it is a long shot with only one clinic, but we would like to try, and if no dice, then revisit the issue with each successive clinic we plan to open.
We have actually successfully refused all flat-rate contracts in our own urgent care centers. I hate to discourage you, but it is not industry standard in Florida to get carve outs. Only the larger groups have had any success with this concept. Carve outs are more common in California. If you try for carve outs, I would suggest that you consider x-rays and laceration procedures. Sorry for the news, but feel free to contact us at any time with questions, suggestions or updates. You are also, welcome to visit our centers for a full-day tour. We are located only one hour west of Chicago O'Hare Airport. Simply call and schedule your tour.
