Questions for Dr. Stern
About Your Urgent Care Center
63. The meeting in Chicago was most informative in October as was the tour of your urgent care facility. My medical director and I were talking about the possibility of us getting trained to do slit lamp exams as well as burring rust rings. You had mentioned that each of your physician colleagues are trained to feel comfortable doing these procedures. How are they trained? Do you send them to a course or do they get trained from one of your seasoned docs? We would like to train our staff appropriately. Thank you very much for your time.
Thanks for your note.
We start new physicians along side of veteran physicians to give them mentoring in procedures, such as use of slit lamps.
We have videos that my partner John Koehler, MD put together with hours of training in various urgent care procedures. All physicians are required to view the videos before beginning their first shift at a clinic. These videos are available through National Med Network (www.nationalmednetwork.com ).
There is a procedures workshop at the UCAOA national convention (www.ucaoa.org) that may, also, be useful.
